If you’re a fan of Nigerian music, you’ve probably heard of Wizkid, Olamide, and Davido.
These three artists are some of the biggest names in the Nigerian music industry, with each having a significant following in their respective hometowns.
Wizkid

Wizkid, also known as Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, is often referred to as the “King of Surulere“.
This is because he grew up in Surulere, a suburb in Lagos, Nigeria. Wizkid’s rise to fame began in Surulere, where he honed his skills as a musician and began performing in local shows.
He has since become one of the most successful musicians in Africa, with a string of hits to his name and collaborations with international artists like Drake and Beyonce.
Olamide

Olamide, whose real name is Olamide Adedeji, is known as the “King of Bariga“.
Bariga is a densely populated suburb in Lagos, Nigeria, and it is where Olamide grew up. Like Wizkid, Olamide started his music career in his hometown, performing at local shows and events.
He has since become one of the most successful and prolific artists in Nigeria, with numerous hit songs and albums to his credit.
Davido

But where does Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, fit in?
While Wizkid and Olamide have clear titles as the “King of Surulere” and the “King of Bariga” respectively. However, Davido’s title is a bit more ambiguous because there’s no clear consensus on which city or suburb he can claim as his own.
Davido was born in Atlanta in the United States, but he spent most of his childhood in Lagos. He has also spent time in London and other parts of the world, and his music has a global appeal.
While he may not have a specific hometown or neighborhood to claim as his own, Davido’s influence on the Nigerian music industry is undeniable.
So, the question remains
If Wizkíd is the King of Surulere and Olamíde is the King of Bariga, where does Davído fit in?
As a reader – what do you think?
Does Davído have a clear title or nickname that you’ve heard before?
Or is he simply too big to be tied down to one specific location?
